What is contrasted between traditional brick and mortar business and the
hybrid business is the fact that the hybrid business takes advantage of the
civilian market via the implementation of electronic business within what is
called the goods and services market. According to Statista Canada “imported goods and services [were] worth
about 638.76 billion” and “exported goods and services [were] worth about 683.08
billion.” Specifically, Shopify had
revenues of $1.124 billion (Macrotrends 2022) in 2021 and Ebay at $11.739
billion (Macrotrends) in 2021. These
companies use electronic business to facilitate the trade from one user to
another. The user can be a civilian or a
business entity. What is interesting to
note here however is the fact that the electronic business that consist of a
part of the goods and services market is a fairly large amount especially when
contrasted to the sum import and export of goods and services of the
country. The goods and services in the
electronic business are constantly sold on a twenty-four-hour basis. Specifically, buying and selling from other
users in such websites as facebook market place and craigslist is a form of
trade within the civilian market.
The civilian market can be traced back to the concept of the “Bazzar”
which was connected to the silk trade where items were vended in the markets of the Middle East and Egypt all the way to Europe and Asia. Merchants would travel across these
continents to vend their “goods such as silk, spices, tea, ivory, cotton, wool,
precious metals, and ideas” (National Geographic 2022). Essentially the Bazaar became the modern
market where commodities are exchanged between individuals and individuals and
shops. Modern markets can be
differentiated by the type of goods they sell, if produce, livestock and meats
are sold, the practice is referred to as the “wet market.” However, if products are packaged, it is
referred to as the market. Regardless,
what transpires in these places is that it serves as a place whereby individual
civilians have the option to trade with each other along with the ability to
trade with the shops therein. What the
hybrid approach takes advantage of is the ability for employees within the
business to trade with one another, as well as the ability to trade with the
global market via electronic business.
Specifically, the hybrid model facilitates the trade between individuals
and the trade between individuals and business.
The aforementioned markets have since transformed to places wherein
people can sell their goods in online through websites such as but not limited
to ebay, craigslist, facebook. The
hybrid business of Erations Conglomerate involves the selling of accounts tied
to assets in which the consumers of respective stores such as the Google Play
Store, Apple Store and the Microsoft Store purchase such goods as applications,
ebooks, music and movies, amongst others.
What is important to note here is that not only is trade occurring in
the aforementioned markets but trade between civilians also happens in places
such as train stations, bus stations and loops, various open malls and parking
lots. The hybrid business of Erations
Conglomerate seeks to provide a safe place whereby employees and other venders
can trade in a safe place away from places that trade black market goods such
as cocaine, heroine, methamphetamines etc.
Such trade in the aforementioned goods results in activities that
promote a risk to safety because often times people engaged in this illicit
activity seek to defile their purchasers.
The hybrid approach takes advantage of the fact that people want a safe
place to trade. When they trade in a
brick and mortar store of the SBU’s of the company over the platform, it serves
as an opportunity for the managers of the SBU to facilitate the sales process with
these potential customers. Regardless,
the trade that the hybrid business facilitates between its employees relies on
social contract. A social contract can be defined as an agreement between
individuals to cooperate with one another.
What actually happens in the process of bargaining and bartering is that
a vendor sends out an “invitation to treat” a perspective consumer looks
at such invitation and makes what is known as an “offer” (Yates 2017). When the offer is made the obligation to
purchase the bartered upon goods or services is complete. The consumer must then provide the bargained
upon “consideration,” in most cases monies, in exchange for that which was
bargained for. Trade with the global
market however is actioned through a terms and conditions to service by the
platform emimee.
There are legal ramifications to the vending of accounts of which the
vender must abide by the terms and conditions of the respective company who
issued the account. However despite
these, there is development in this untapped market of goods, according to
Faskens, a leading law firm, they specify that in “2012, a European Court ruled
that it was permissible to resell digital software” (2019). Further in a European case, the District
Court of Paris asserted that “Valve could not prevent consumers from reselling
digital versions of the video games they had purchased on Steam” (Fasken 2019). Faskens also mentions that there
is a pending case with regards to the resale of eBooks is in Europe's highest
court (2019). Essentially what is argued
is that current policy is anti consumer and the market is designed from the
perspective of the businesses who issue such accounts. There are consumer protection agencies which
aim to advocate consumer rights and freedoms of which include and are not
limited to; BBB, Consumer Affairs Canada.
The legislation that governs the majority of the safety of products sold
in Canada is “Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA).”
Another legal ramification is the engaging in the trafficking of account
information and passwords. Henceforth,
trade must occur in the aforementioned “safe” place where a meeting between the
two parties must occur so as to complete the exchange. Passwords and account information are
transferred from the vendor to the purchaser and not the vendor to the
platform, to avoid legal liability with the laws of the land pertaining to such
trade. In the global market place this would take place via email with prompts and steps provided by the platform. Despite these however, purchases
can still occur online.
The benefit of the “hybrid business” is that people have the option to
purchase from people they have rapport with, as is the case with what Erations
Conglomerate is promoting via the emimee platform. The drawback is that there is a less probability
that the individual finds a buyer because of a reduced consumer base. Despite these however, emimee aims to have
that market as well via opening it up to the web. In this, emimee hopes to give the employees
the ability to sell their goods and services online.
Further, through the emimee platform, individuals can place themselves
on bid specifically for the company to offer a bonus upon the accepting of an
offer of employment. Internal (Erations Conglomerate) and
external employers can look and scroll through these individuals and determine
the feasibility and the viability for placement within their company based on
the merits they promote on the emimee platform.
This practice comes from sports wherein specific teams in national
leagues such as the NFL and NHL offer their perspective players a bonus upon
accepting or changing teams. Further in
academia, scouts are used to persuade perspective players to join the schools
teams. These perspective players are
offered scholarships and discounts on tuition.
Just like the aforementioned, Erations Conglomerate aims to advance and
commercialize the practice of human trafficking by implementing the factors
market into the company. The
factors market can be defined as “markets in which firms buy the resources they
need to produce goods and services” (Krugman 2018). By putting oneself up for bid on emimee he or
she can affect the “factor intensity” meaning that he or she can be selected by
internal (Erations Conglomerate) or external employers thus differentiating
themselves from other factors or possible employees. Essentially, the aim is that whomsoever
places themselves on bid, seeks to gain a factor income. This is an income is in the form of salary
wherein it was a surplus of the factors of production of which the individual
becomes a resources of the company who purchased them via the bidding
process. Hence people placed on emimee
or any other site such as craigslist, indeed, kijiji etc., become producer
goods. A producer good can be defined
as; “goods, which satisfy the want of consumers indirectly….. they help in [the]
producing [of] other goods” (NIOS 2022).
Human trafficking has a bad rapport in society, and it is attached to
negative connotations because people have had negative experiences specifically
being mistreated or deceived. In fact,
there are many cases by which people in the public eye have felt they were
treated without equity; such is the case when an individual was specifically
used for her profession, in the courts she explained to the jury, she felt that
she was “sexually trafficked,” in her profession and it was “not good for my
heart.” Further, another individual has
claimed in court that some take pride in being the one to “break” her and that the
person doing the violation experienced some sort of satisfaction from it. These cases go back years into the past and
have essentially caused in these people a significant amount of pain and suffering. Society has specifically made laws in order
to prevent such mistreatment of peoples.
Erations Conglomerate has a history of research and development in this
area. As a matter of fact, Erations
Conglomerate experimented with blogger in a crude attempt to sell various
individuals in the community, individuals found on craigslist and through
interpersonal communications in the community.
This was done through a now deactivated blog referred to as “Security
Track.” The subjects involved are as follows: An individual who got into a brawl in the bus
in Metro Vancouver. People were arguing
and debating over this incident over social media. And, there was also an individual advertising
sex on craigslist. Erations Conglomerate
does not condone the selling of sex. In
fact, the company believes that such individuals needs to be regulated by the
government. And furthermore, such
individuals can serve as an intervention hence a therapeutic effect can be
ascertained in the treatment of such disorders as depression amongst
others. In fact, there are already
individuals working which seek to address the social isolation and exclusion, these are what are referred to as companions. What seems to be the differentiation of the
sex worker and the companion is the nature of the job, essentially separated with
something of a scope. The sex worker has
the “scope” to perform acts of sex whereas the companion addresses the
interpersonal communications of the individual that hired them. Without a degree program in Sex and Intimacy,
such uncertainty in the discipline will continue and the issue of scope remains
blurred. Erations Conglomerate also had
an interest in a particular subject who ascertained notoriety in the community
when she was not given a Brazilian. The
businesses didn’t provide the service because they provide services to the
female body and not individuals that have not undergone reconstructive
surgery. This individual was combative
to the press and henceforth Erations Conglomerate discontinued interest. Regardless with this case and the previously
mentioned, these individuals provide the company with the value of inclusion
and diversity. They serve to provide a
perspective which intrigues the status quo.
Essentially, it provides excitement but also the desire to think critically. These outstanding individuals allow for
policy transformation to take place.
They give the government cues for consideration and such experiences are
factored during policy creation. Henceforth,
the “hybrid approach to business” is an important part of Erations Conglomerate
and its corporate plan. Having this
platform helps with the development of the culture of the company and its
dedication to the capitalist economy. Specifically,
Erations Conglomerate through the emimee platform aims to appeal to the
innovative/ adhocracy and market driven cultures known in business.
